56 kms south west
of Shillong situated at an altitude of 1,300 mts above sea level,
Cherapunjee still continue to be the wettest place on earth with more than
12,000 mm of rain annually, from June to October Cherrapunjee is cloaked in
thick mist most of the time but when the weather is fine, one can see
Cherrapunjee at its glorious best. It is most spectacular with scores of
white –foamy water falls cascading down from great heights, breathtaking
landscapes covered by lush greens everywhere.
The lovely town is also famous for its limestone caves, orange and honey, a
Centre of the Khasi Culture and literature. The oldest Theological College
in this region is located here, established by the Welsh Presbyterian
Missionaries in 1888, known as Cherrapunjee Theological College. In fact, no
other place in India can offer such variety of nature in one place.
