Mairang is a sub-divisional headquarters and it is located halfway to in Shillong – Nongstoin. 12 kms from Mairang lays the imposing Kyllang rock. It is a massive dome shape of single rock of granite, which measures 1,000 ft, across in diameter.

A beautiful memorial in the honour of U Tirot is constructed here in Mairang to commemorate his great feats. U Tirot Sing Syiem (Raja of Nongkhlaw) was spear-headed a war against the British invaders to defend the territorial integrity and cultural identity of the Hynniewtrep people.
