Shillong is one of
the most beautiful hill stations in India and the capital city of the
Meghalaya State as well as the district headquarter of the East Khasi Hill
District. The name Shillong is derived from U-shyllong, a powerful deity and
is built at an altitude of 1,491 mt above sea level. Shillong is a major
tourist attraction today. This beautiful hill station is compared with
Scotland like the way Kashmir is compared with Switzerland.
