This is 15 to 20 minutes drive from Kathmandu and is separated by Bagmati River. This city Lalitpur is the one of the tourism hub situated in the Kathmandu Valley. The other two cities are Kathmandu and Bhaktapur (Bhadgaon). Situated at an altitude of 1336 meter, the Kathmandu Valley covers an area of 218 square miles and this is one of the must visit site. This ancient city of Patan also Known as Lalitpur or the city of fine arts is about five kilometers from Kathmandu. The city is full of Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments.
Tibetan population has set up a number of shrines and stupas. They have also set up several souvenir shops offering Tibetan handicrafts such as prayer wheels of wood, ivory, silver or bronze, long temple horns made of beaten copper, belt buckles, wooden bowls and jewelers. In this area, the Tibetans can be seen weaving carpets.

Railways – Nepal has railway connections with its neighboring country, India. Two stretches of railway are Raxaul (India) to Amlekhganj (Nepal) and the other is Raxaul (India) to Janakpur (Nepal). Buses are available for Kathmandu from Janakpur and Amlekhganj. All the bordering towns of Indo - Nepal are served by Indian Railway system.
Roadways - Patan is nearly 5 kilometers from Kathmandu. Roadways are the only other alternatives. Roads are good and have developed in the last few years.
