It is just only
6-7 years ago, Pelling was a small village near Pemayangtse from where one
can start trekking to Sangas Choling Monastery.
But today it is a fast developing city due to heavy tourist flow from the
late nineties. The city is situated at an altitude of 6800 ft. Pelling is
famous for the panoramic view it offers of the entire mountain range
including the mighty Khanchendzonga.
Today Pelling has a good number of hotels and resorts to stay with various
categories.
To Reach
By Rail – The nearest railhead is at New Jalpaiguri which is 114 kms
from Gangtok. NJP is well connected with all major cities in India.
By Road – Pelling is connected with Darjeeling, Kalimpong and
Siliguri by the national highway 31A. The Sikkim Nationalised Transport
plies regular bus services between Gangtok and Pelling. private bus, taxis and jeeps are also available from Siliguri
& Bagdogra.
By Air – The closest air port is at Bagdogra, which is 115 kms from
Pelling and connected by Air with all important Indian metros.
