Located at a
distance of 35 kms from Agartala, and on the highway connecting Agartala
with Udaipur, the districts headquarter of south Tripura district passes
through it.
The sanctuary covers an area of 18.53 sq kms. And has a rich collection of
wildlife particularly of birds and primates. One visitor can enjoy more than
150 species of residential birds, migratory birds, orchid garden, boating
facilities, a ride on toy train, variety of wildlife, botanical garden, zoo,
elephant joy rides and the scenic beauty including rubber and coffee
plantation attract the visitors.
A trekker in the early morning is sure to see more then 150 species of
resident birds. During winter host of migratory birds visit the sanctuary.
The sanctuary has as many as six species of primates in it, which is a rare
feature anywhere. The sanctuary has been conceived as both of wildlife
sanctuary and as a academic as well as research centre.
The zoo is being developed under sylvan surrounds, although it is a
developing zoo, it has got many attractive animals some of which are rare.
Inside the sanctuary a forest Dak Bungalow called Abasarika offers
accommodation. |
