Coochbehar Travel & Tour Information

The Koch Dynasty is nearly five hundred years old. Its duration was from 1510 AD to 1949 AD. The princely state of Coochbehar merged with India as a central territory on September 12th, 1949 and subsequently became a district of West Bengal on 1st January, 1950. Of the 583 native states in India, only 118 enjoyed the honor of gun salute and Coochbehar was one of them. The Maharaja (King) of Coochbehar enjoyed the honour of 13 gun fire.

Situated almost at the foothills of the Himalayas, Coochbehar town then capital of Coochbehar state, has a picturesque beauty with its long and specious roads and an exceptionally remarkable tank, Sagar Dighi and its calm and serene atmosphere, like of which is rare to be found in the hole of West Bengal.

By Road – Coochbehar is well connected to all important cities of West Bengal and neighbouring places of Assam and Bhutan.

By Rail – Nearest railhead is New Coochbehar. Long distance trains to and from Guwahati, Tinsukia, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai etc are available.
