Situated at a
distance of 58 kms from Siliguri and 32 kms Darjeeling it is a quiet
township at an altitude of 1458 mt. Kurseong is famous for its commanding
view of the plain below. Kurseong means ‘the place which produce white
orchid’. Due to low altitude Kurseong enjoys a beautiful climatic condition
through out the year. Kurseong is the place of Eastern Forest Ranger’s
College (EFRC) at St. Mary’s hill at a distance of 4 kms from the main town.
Low altitude trek from
Kurseong to Mirik via Namsu & Balasun is very popular among the trekkers.
To Reach
By Air – The nearest airport is in Bagdogra which is 62 kms away from
Darjeeling. Flight for Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Patna are available from
this airport.
By Rail – two closest major railway stations are Siliguri Junction
(62 kms) and New Jalpaiguri (68 kms). Kurseong also has a railway station
which serves as the station for
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) or toy
train.
By Road – National Highway 55 (NH 55) connects Kurseong with other
parts of the country. Frequent bus and taxi service is available to and from
Siliguri, Mirik, Darjeeling, Kalimpong etc.
