Zuluk

Zuluk is perched on the rugged terrain of the lower Himalayas in East Sikkim bordering Bhutan.  Zuluk is a hamlet close to The Indo China border and is adjacent to neighbouring Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. It is situated at an altitude of 3350 meters / 11,200 feet and is a relatively new destination. The places to enjoy or visit are breathtaking view of the sunrise. The rising of the sun is a phenomenon to be watched. The snow clad tip of the Khanchendzonga with sun rays illuminating the peak in a spectacular view. Zuluk can be reached by rail, road and air. The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB), while the nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP).  One can reach Rangpo / Rongli, Aritar, Reshi Khola or similar destination. Guest will have then to get the Inner Line Permit to proceed further to Zuluk via Rongli. It is advisable a overnight stay at Aritar, Reshi Khola, Pedong, Damsang, etc and proceed to Zuluk the next day. Three nights is the minimum stay one requires to visit this region. Two nights stay is very hectic and might affect health due to difference of altitude. In fact, special permits are required to tour Zuluk. The place has a army base located there is used as a transit camp for army movement to the Chinese border. Previously, it was a part of the popular silk route connecting Kalimpong to Tibet and was mainly used by traders traveling to Tibet. The entire area around Zuluk gets covered in snow and after November and one can enjoy the most magnificent sunrises over Mt. Kanchenjungha. Adi Baba Mandir, Kupup Lake (Bitang Cho lake), Memencho Lake, Nathang Valley,  Tukla valley, Jepep  La Pass,  Yak Golf Course, Aritar (Lampokhori) Lake,  Aritar Gumpha, Parbateshwar Shivalaya Mandir, Mankhim Dara, Nirmal Dhaam, Lingsey, Phusrey Lake, etc.

By Air – The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Rongli / Aritar is nearly 130 kilometers via national highway 31 A. One can also use the chopper service to Gangtok and from Gangtok one can drive roughly 65 kilometers. From Aritar / Rongli vehicle permit has to be made and booked for visiting Nathang Valley, Jelep La Pass, Memencho Lake, Kupup Lake, etc. Zuluk is roughly 2 – 3 hours drive from Aritar or Rongli and requires Inner Line Permit (ILP).

By Rail – The nearest major railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). From New Jalpaiguri Railway Station one has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometers. From Aritar / Rongli vehicle permit has to be made and booked for visiting Nathang Valley, Jelep La Pass, Memencho Lake, Kupup Lake, etc. Zuluk is roughly 2 – 3 hours drive from Aritar or Rongli and requires Inner Line Permit (ILP).

By Road – Roads till Gangtok is national highway 31 A. Guest has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometers from Siliguri.
