Shankarpur

Shankarpur is a virgin beach of eastern India nearly 15 kilometers from Digha. Casuarina groves by the side of a gentle sea and good climate round the year makes  it a popular beach.  It is a beach village in East Medinipur district of West Bengal in India. Shankarpur is nearly 190 kilometers from Kolkata Its a new addition to the tourist map of West Bengal. It is a destination away from the crowd known to locals bit secluded. Its fringed by casuarinas and eucalyptus trees. Tourist can walk on the beach chasing the sunset, up to a point where the delta of two small rivers stops guest from proceeding further. One can walk and collect beautiful shells of varied shapes and hues. Its a long tree-lined beach with the attraction of Fishing Harbour Project. Mornings are cool with fishermen seen hauling their nets out of the sea. It offers excellent photographic opportunities.

To Reach 

• By Air - Nearest Airport is in Dum Dum i.e. at Kolkata (Kolkata Airport), which is air linked with all major Indian and international cities. It is 210 kilometers by road to Netaji Subhas Bose International airport. 
• By Rail - One can travel from Digha by train from Howrah. From station one have to hire a taxi or use the bus to go to Ramnagar and hire a trekker to go to the beach. Frequency of trains is less. Roadways save time while travelling from Kolkata.
• By Road - Shankarpur is nearly 190 kilometers from Kolkata in Travel Time of 4 ½ to 5 hours. Buses ply to Shankarpur from Dharamtala / Esplanade, Kolkata. Guest needs to get off the bus at Choddomile or Chaulkhola (14 miles in Bengali) between Contai (Kanthi) and Digha to proceed to Shankarpur. Just before Ramnagar and hire a trekker to Shankarpur.
