Temi Tea Garden

Temi Tea Garden, also known as Temi Tea Estate, is the only tea estate in Sikkim and one of the state's most picturesque attractions. Located in South Sikkim, about 16 km from Namchi and 22 km from Ravangla, the estate is spread across rolling hills at an altitude ranging from 4,800 to 6,400 feet (1,460 to 1,950 metres). Covering nearly 440 acres, Temi is celebrated for producing premium-quality organic tea that is exported to several countries around the world.

Established in 1969 by the Government of Sikkim, the estate was created to promote sustainable livelihoods and improve the local economy. Today, Temi Tea Garden is internationally recognised for its high-quality organic black, green, oolong, and speciality teas. The plantation follows environmentally friendly farming practices, making it one of India's leading organic tea estates.

The neatly terraced tea gardens stretching across the hillsides create a breathtaking landscape, especially during the tea-plucking season. Visitors can stroll along the plantation paths, observe tea workers harvesting fresh leaves, and enjoy the refreshing aroma of the tea bushes. On clear days, the estate offers magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga Range, adding to its scenic charm.

The estate also features a tea processing factory where visitors can learn about the journey of tea leaves from plantation to packaging. Guided tours provide insights into cultivation, processing, grading, and the art of tea tasting. A visit to the estate's tea lounge allows guests to sample freshly brewed varieties while enjoying panoramic mountain views.

Temi Tea Garden is particularly beautiful during spring (March to May) when colourful rhododendrons and cherry blossoms bloom, creating a vibrant contrast against the lush green tea bushes. The peaceful surroundings also make it an excellent destination for photography, nature walks, birdwatching, and relaxing holidays.

Accommodation options, including heritage bungalows and nearby homestays, allow visitors to experience the tranquillity of the tea estate. Temi is often included in South Sikkim itineraries along with Namchi, Samdruptse Hill, Siddhesvara Dham (Char Dham), Ravangla, and Buddha Park.

Whether you are a tea enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful escape in the Himalayas, Temi Tea Garden offers a memorable experience with its scenic beauty, rich tea heritage, and warm Sikkimese hospitality.
