Zero Point, also known as Yumesamdong, is one of the highest and most spectacular tourist destinations in North Sikkim. Situated at an altitude of approximately 15,300 feet (4,664 metres), it lies close to the India-China border and marks the last accessible civilian point on the route beyond Yumthang Valley. Surrounded by snow-covered Himalayan peaks, frozen streams, and vast alpine landscapes, Zero Point is a paradise for nature lovers, adventure enthusiasts, and photographers.
The destination is famous for its breathtaking scenery, where snow remains for most of the year, creating a magical winter landscape even during the summer months. Due to the extreme altitude, visitors are advised to acclimatize properly and spend only a limited time at Zero Point to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
The best time to visit Zero Point is from April to June, when the weather is pleasant and the valleys are covered with blooming flowers, and from October to November, when the skies are clear and mountain views are at their best. Snowfall is common from December to March, although heavy snow may occasionally affect road access. Since Zero Point lies within a protected border region, Indian nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) issued by the Sikkim Government, while foreign nationals are not permitted beyond designated areas. With its dramatic Himalayan scenery, year-round snow, and unforgettable landscapes, Zero Point is one of North Sikkim's most iconic and must-visit destinations.
